Website ranks city twelfth safest in U.S.

Your chances of being the victim of a crime in Glen Cove are less than in most other cities in the country, according to a recent report.

The website NeighborhoodScout released its list of the Top 100 Safest Cities in the U.S. for cities with populations of more than 25,000 people. Glen Cove ranked 12, one spot higher than Greenwich, Conn. and one behind Sammamish, Wash.

Footsteps of a Forgotten Soldier  

Presentation by authors Denice Evans-Sheppard and Frank Carl.

A young African-American by the name of David Carll from the small village of Oyster Bay embarked on a journey over a 150 years ago to help preserve the Union and end slavery by enlisting and fighting in the Civil War. His journey, life and times will be told in a powerful story by his great great grandchildren Frank Carl and Denice Evans-Sheppard.

The Toffeys and The Wordens: A Family Goes To War 1861-1865

Bill Finlayson discusses the experiences of four of his family members in the American Civil War, including: a secret mission to save Fort Pickens, becoming the very first Union prisoner of war, the Battle of the Monitor and the Merrimack, the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Chattanooga, the Assassination of President Lincoln, and being awarded the Medal of Honor.

LUNCHTIME FOOD AND FUN FOR KIDS!
 
Hey, kids!  When school is out this summer, look for food and fun at the Glen Cove Public Library.  The Library and Glen Cove AHRC are partnering to encourage children to continue eating healthy throughout the summer months.  
 
Beginning Monday, July 6th and continuing through Wednesday August 19th, join us in the Library’s Community Room between noon and 1pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays for a nutritious lunch.  You’ll also enjoy making crafts, watching movies and listening to some great books.
