Painting Workshop: Winter Wonderland

Thursdays, November 1, 8 & 15 at 2pm

Talented landscape artist Barbara Lewin will guide you step-by-step in a series of three painting classes. She’ll teach you how to paint a winter landscape scene with acrylic paint. No painting experience is necessary. The materials fee of $10 (payable to: Barbara Lewin) covers all materials necessary to participate. Please register at the Glen Cove Library’s Information desk.

BID Board of Directors Meeting

The next monthly meeting of the Glen Cove Downtown Business Improvement District's Board of Directors will take place on Thursday, Nov. 1, at Atria Senior Living, 146 Glen Street, starting at 12 p.m. Cost is $12.

 

Annual Halloween Parade and Festival

Saturday, Oct. 27

Join the Regency Assisted Livingat noon for Scary Story Hour and refreshments.

Halloween Parade kickoff at 1 p.m. at School Street and Highland Road (rain location: Pulaski Street Garage). Costume Contest at 2 p.m. Festivities from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.: Trick or Treating, Bouncy House, Live DJ, fun games, pie eating contest.

North Shore Historical Museum

Opening Reception: The Harlem Hellfighters 369th Regiment
The Harlem Hellfighters were an African-American infantry unit in World War I who spent more time in combat than any other American unit; 30 of these brave men were from Glen Cove and three won individual war crosses. The exhibit is on view from Sept. 28, 2018- Jan. 12, 2019.

Plants for the Late Fall & Early Winter Garden

Join us at The Glen Cove Public Library as Paul Levine discusses plants that will thrive in the late fall/early winter garden. He’ll discuss the proper location and best type of soil for each type of plant, different ways to water your plants, whether or not you should use fertilizer as well as how to deal with pests. Seven attendees will go home with a plant as a raffle prize.
